The Sleep Seekers

1990

In their satin beds
the sleepers now dreaming of rest
and new places without any faces
begin to create
wings crossed 'cross their breasts
and eyes closed dormant
lying in pools of blue
lids floating softly on their minds.
Tell me where they're dreaming
and what they're seeming

            In another room
A cross hangs from a ceiling
from a neck a rosary slips slowly by a side

Their lips blue slits that opened the world up wide
without any keys
coldly
this is where they wished to be
isn't it?

            Their bodies are wastelands

And they went through fire
chewed the flames
spread over oceans

                        Just remember
                        We were Giants.
